With the rise of covid-19, a new importance has been put on infection control, air quality, and purification of surfaces. Unfortunately, it has taken a global pandemic for many of us to realize just how significant these factors affect our overall health. Hospitals, commercial companies, and governments have started to implement infection control and air quality solutions to help prevent the spread of infectious diseases, as well as improve the overall health of patients, employees, residents, and customers.
The infection control market is predicted to be worth an impressive $52.7 billion by 2026, growing at a CAGR of 3.4% between now and then. This growth is a combination of multiple factors. First and foremost, covid-19 has put a heightened importance for companies and healthcare facilities to improve their infection control standards, plus, other strong market trends such as an increase in surgeries performed and an influx of investments from governments is creating strong secular tailwinds.
Applied UV, Inc. (AUVI) is positioned extremely well to take advantage of the expanding market is . Today, we will be conducting a deep dive on the company to learn more about what they do and how they could become a market leader within the infection control and purification sector.
What Does Applied UV Do?
Applied UV operates under its wholly-owned subsidiaries SteriLumen and MunnWorks. The company is mainly focused on the development, acquisition and commercialization of technology dedicated to providing infection prevention solutions. And primarily serves customers in the healthcare, hospitality, commercial, and residential industries.
More specifically, SteriLumen is dedicated to providing easy to implement and effective devices to protect at risk populations from infectious diseases. They do this through leveraging their technology in a variety of automated and connected designs to effectively eliminate pathogens that may cause healthcare acquired infections (HAI’s). Their target market are facilities who experience high customer (or patient) turnover such as hospitals, assisted living facilities, doctors offices, walk-in clinics, and various high-traffic public places. As well, SteriLumen’s products provide solutions without harmful emissions of ozone or other chemicals that could potentially be harmful to the environment or individuals.
MunnWorks on the other hand, designs, manufactures and distributes novelty mirrors and framed artwork designed specifically to the hospitality industry. MunnWorks has a long-standing history of developing one-of-a-kind products for their customers and is considered to be the gold standard within industry. The company has manufacturing sites based both domestically in America, as well as internationally.
Comprehensive Portfolio of Product Offerings
Applied UV (under the SteriLumen brand) has three main product offerings all of which focus on infection control and purification. The company provides its products to commercial sized businesses such as hospitals or manufacturing facilities as well as making their products available directly to the consumer to install in residential homes. Its three core products include Airocide Air Purification, Lumicide Surface Disinfectant, and Clarity D3.
Let’s first take a look at Airocide. Pictured below, Airocide leverages technology originally developed by NASA to ensure a high level of air quality at the international space station. The product operates through drawing air in through a fan, which is then pushed across hollow glass tubes (called a reaction chamber). The air then goes through a process called Photocatalytic Oxidation, which destroys any pathogens (including viruses, bacteria, molds and fungi) that may be present. This process, although it may sound confusing provides a simple and extremely effective solution to purifying air in large (or small) areas. Airocide is levels above alternative products such as HEPA filters, which only acts to trap pathogens, but do nothing to actively destroy them. Airocide on the other hand works to annihilate these harmful pathogens, returning air to the environment that is cleaner and safer to breathe in. What’s more, is Airocide also has clearance from the FDA as a class two medical device, meaning it can be used in operating rooms during surgical procedures.

Turning to Applied UV’s second product, Lumicide, which is a connected and automated device aimed at surface disinfection. This product is designed to be installed in high-risk areas such as bathrooms (or other high touch spaces) and utilizes ultra-violet technology (UVC) to eliminate any pathogens or viruses that may be present on the surface. Lumicide is offered in two different options, the Lumicide Ribbon, and the Lumicide Drain. Pictured below (Ribbon on the right, and Drain on the left) the physical design of the products allow it to be installed in a variety of different rooms and configurations.

The Lumicide Ribbon was tested in a biosafety level 3 lab and results showed it was 99.9% effective in neutralizing SARS-Cov-2 (covid-19) in just 5 minutes. The Lumicide Drain underwent a similar study in a level 2 lab and was tested against OC43 human coronavirus, C. diff, E. coli, MRSA and H1N1. Results showed greater than 99.9% viral inactivation. Both the Airocide and Lumicide products are extremely easy to install and have virtually no extra maintenance required. Applied UV is offering an incredibly efficient, effective and simple to use system to protect individuals from harmful diseases.
The last product Applied UV offers is Clarity D3, which is an add-on for customers who already have Airocide or Lumicide products, and is a remote management application that provides detailed insights into the cleanliness of your spaces as well as providing an overview of the performance of your devices. Clarity D3 allows users to control devices remotely, and will alert users to maintenance needed or any interruptions to performance.
Through these three core offerings Applied UV is building out an impressive ecosystem within the infection control and prevention space, and with multiple high value partnerships and other avenues of growth, the company is showing investors the effectiveness of their technology.
Partnerships and Avenues for Further Growth

Applied UV announced in March of 2021, that the Boston Red Sox had agreed to install the Airocide system across Fenway Park and Jet Blue Park (which is the teams spring training facility), marking a project value of over $700K. This is building on the already long list of notable customers that have decided to implement Applied UV’s revolutionary technology, and opens a new avenue of growth as other major sporting facilities are likely to implement their own infection prevention protocols to combat covid-19.
Additionally, the company is also entering into a joint development agreement with leading architectural lighting company Axis. This partnership will focus on developing and commercializing new LED-based technology to be used in hospitals. Applied UV will receive royalty payments from Axis as the product becomes available.
These partnerships are demonstrating the growth model Applied UV is pursuing. With such diverse and easy to use products the company has the ability to distribute their products to both large scale organizations, as well as smaller retail customers. However, these partnerships are showing the most promising avenue for growth comes from their commercial sized customers, who are looking for ways to better prevent infectious diseases in their high turnover facilities.

Seen above, Applied UV has outlined the industries they believe have the strongest potential for them to expand. As one can see their products are able to integrate well into virtually any industry or space. Additionally, with their international manufacturing capabilities, a wide-reaching sales team and a customer base that already operates internationally Applied UV sees expansion outside of North America as a major organic growth driver.
Macroeconomic Influence
The global pandemic has undoubtedly provided a large macroeconomic tailwind for the infection control and prevention industry, governments and consumers now prioritize the added layer of health and safety these devices can provide.
Growth is expected to happen in both North America as well as large parts of Asia. In American hospitals alone The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimated that healthcare acquired infections (HAI’s) accounted for 1.7 million infections and 99,000 associated deaths annually. Consumers and governments alike are becoming more aware of these growing problems, which is likely to translate to larger investments into infection control solutions.
As well, the market for infection prevention in Asia is expected to see accelerated growth due to consumers demanding more protection from infectious diseases. This is a part of the world with a massive population, who previously has not had the education or resources to understand and implement infection prevention practices. The global pandemic has shown just how important this technology is, and with a growing economy and access to technology consumers are now prioritizing infection prevention infrastructure be implemented.

Above is showing only a fraction of Applied UV’s total customer base, however it shows they have strong relationships with companies who operate worldwide. From these strong relationships the company has placed themselves in a great position to capitalize on these macroeconomic trends as countries and companies prioritize installing infection prevention devices to meet consumers demands.
Management Team
Applied UV is led by CEO and Director Keyoumars Saeed. Mr. Saeed has over 25 years of experience with developing companies who are leveraging cutting edge technology. Most recently, he held the position of CEO at Ubiquity LLC, and advised the National Mental Health Innovation Center (NMHIC) as well as working with CU Innovations on developing their technology innovation network (TIN) on virtual and augmented reality.
Another key member of the team is Max Munn, who holds the title of President and Director, Applied UV, and CEO of MunnWorks. Attending MIT from 1961-1966 majoring in chemistry and architecture Mr. Munn has held the position of CEO at MunnWorks for over 20 years. He brings an astonishing level of knowledge and understanding surrounding supplying the hospitality industry with high quality and innovative mirrors.
The two remaining executives at Applied UV include James L. Doyle III (Chief Operating Officer) and Mike Riccio (Chief Financial Officer) who collectively bring over 53 years of experience within their respective fields. Both have had incredibly successful careers leading internationally acclaimed companies to success. Mr. Doyle and Mr. Riccio have extensive experience in leading companies with relatively small valuations to expand into new markets and become dominant players within their respective industries.
Key Risks
Applied UV operates in a competitive, highly regulated and constantly evolving industry. Although the company is positioned very well to succeed, they are not operating in a risk-free environment, and investors thinking of becoming shareholders need to understand the risk profile of the company.
Applied UV relies on their cutting-edge technology to stand apart. However, any modifications or new products will be subject to approval from the FDA (among other regulatory bodies). New product offerings are likely to require significant capital and other resources to develop, and a failure to achieve regulatory approval could lead to a significant amount of company resources lost. As well, failure to comply with industry standards could also lead to fines, product seizures, product recalls, and in extreme circumstances criminal charges. This is the reality of producing products that need constant regulatory approval, and failure to achieve this approval could prove to be significantly financially damaging to the company.
Another risk the company faces is stiff competition and protection of their intellectual portfolio. With strong market trends in favor of companies producing infection prevention products comes robust competition from other companies to produce innovative solutions. As the company progresses, there is no guarantee that competitors will not produce a more effective product. As well, Applied UV’s biggest differentiator to date has been their comprehensive intellectual portfolio of patents and trademarks. It is possible these patents could be called into question, or deemed to infringe on other current patents. If the companies’ patents were to dissipate it could remove the competitive advantage the company currently enjoys.
Lastly, Applied UV will have to prove their distribution and overall business model to be successful. The company has yet to achieve consistent profitability, and will have to show their mass commercialization and distribution strategy is financially viable. So far, Applied UV has emphasized growth over profitability, though, eventually the company will have to improve margins and prove they can expand operations at scale. Additionally, the financial viability of the company relies heavily on the leadership and expertise of the management team. Should a core member of the team depart from the company, this could prove to be an overwhelming loss to the company’s standing.

Applied UV has trailing twelve-month (TTM) revenue of $8.75 million, which marks an impressive YOY increase of 127.60%, as one can see from the chart above, the company is showing consistent topline growth as they continue to expand their operations.
Yet perhaps what is most impressive, and is something investors should be aware of, is the greatly improved financial standing the company has created in terms of their debt and cash balances. Previously this year, Applied UV had a cash balance of $12.3 million with debt totalling $13.8 million. As of this writing, the company has $11.75 million in cash and a debt balance of only $2.01 million. The company is benefitting from a vastly superior financial position, and is now in a much more adaptable and flexible position. They currently have a market cap of $46.25 million, meaning they are trading at only 5.28 times sales. And as a company that is showing incredible and consistent top line growth Applied UV is showing signs of being significantly undervalued.
Final Thoughts
Looking below, Applied UV not only has a simple and easy to use product, they also have the data and scientific backing to show their products are proving to the gold standard in infection prevention and purification. The company has an impressive (and constantly) growing portfolio of intellectual property, which is putting them in a position to continue on the stellar growth they have seen so far. Partnerships with major brands such as the Boston Red Sox further prove this thesis.

Analyzing the companies price movements throughout the year shows Applied UV’s impressive growth has not been reflected in their share price. The company is well off their 52-week high of $35.70 a share, and is showing signs today of being severely undervalued. There are also sizeable bets against the company , as roughly 7% of of the float is currently shorted. Regardless, the company, through their three core product offerings, has built a comprehensive ecosystem within the infection prevention sector.

In short, Applied UV has the product, customer base and management team required to see continued success for years to come, and with the company currently trading at bargain level prices this company has immense potential to achieve market thrashing returns, making Applied UV worthy of anyone's watchlist.

Im a 23 year old muslim hijabi female. I'm in a 2 year 8 month relationship with a 23 year old Christian man. I had to move in with him and his family 6 months into our relationship. Our relationship initially started rocky. He had female friends I didn't understand their dynamic. He was very close to all of his male and female friends but he was a bit closer to his female friends and this made me uneasy. I thought I could do it be the girlfriend who could be the coolest to all of his loved ones. Sadly that never happened he threw me into a socially anxious group of 6 other people. It was hell for me I didn't know anyone but him. He kind of veered more of his attention to his friends and I felt left out. I got really anxious myself with meeting 6 people. They weren't meeting 6 people. They met 1. I met 6. It was scary but I got through it. Then weeks later they start hanging out more and I'm just there trying to make conversation but they weren't very talkative like the first time I met them..again I felt left out... long story short these experiences deemed me to have bad vibes, quiet mouse, odd. I tried another time months later apologized to his friends for being weird. They accepted my apology. Then it was the same awkward stuff, me talking too much, writing too much, being too interested in them than they were in me, double texting mostly, and asking to hang out exclusively I don't have many friends of my own due to moving constantly. As an adult making friends is so difficult. I thought in my silly mind that because they're his friends they'll definitely be mine but oh my was I wrong. They're all very nice people themselves but I don't know where it all went wrong. Me and my boyfriend had a toxic relationship dynamic. Jealousy on my side towards his female friends. Me controlling him and him controlling me. Then months later another issue came up. It was the anniversary day of my father's passing. Being a Muslim having unmarried sex is a major sin. I told him crying I have to do this for my dad. So he doesn't suffer the hell fire and I don't get in trouble with my lord. This turned rhe tables for us. We fought and fought and fought. Over and over again. It felt like it was never ending. He didn't understand the entirety of it as much as I explained to him. I remember crying my eyes out telling him please help me with this. His responses were I'm not ready, I don't want to right now, we will someday, and maybe 5 years from now. I know what you're thinking why not break up? I tried that but we talked and talked and talked and cried and I caved and said it's fine we don't have to. I completely forgot about it. For a year and a few months. Then some things happen between us, his friends and him watching porn and me not being okay with it, and tons of other petty things. Soon I moved out with my sister first until she would harass me and verbally abuse me and call me names very horrible names you shouldn't say to your younger sister. To clarify I have an older sister, sister(middle), and a brother, I'm the youngest. After that didn't work out staying with my sister. i moved with my brother my mom and his wife and my niece. It was honestly the same like my sisters verbal abuse from my brother, calling me names, picking fights with me, taking me to clubs, buying me drinks(unfortunately did do), getting me high(did not do), both of my siblings made me feel suicidal. I ended up telling my brother and facing him in front of his gf that he hurt my feelings and he got really mad and almost got physical if my mom and sister didnt stop him. What hurt the most was i was crying while i told him he made me I wanted to kill myself and he got angry and instead of comforting me he tried to physically attack me but my mom and sister stopped him. He then left to take his gf home and my mom and sister they said why did you do that why did you get mad at him If something happens to him it's your fault. They blamed my dad's death on me prior because i left with my fiance at the time to go live with him. My dad died from copd, dementia, he had a heart meter, a few strokes and high blood pressure. My aunt blames me, my mom slightly did, my sister did, not sure about my brother. My mom has never done this before I think it's because my sister was there. My older then comes to talk to me and calm me down. My older sister doesn't see eye to eye as them which made it a bit nicer for me. I felt listened to from my older sister. My mom then decided to want to leave and drive off somewhere. She does it in a way where it's concerning. You can see see her face when she's thinking of doing something like suicide(shes said it in the past so i got scared). So I kept her keys til she cooled down. She cooled down and called me inside then apologized. My mom isn't the one thats mean. My two siblings don't really respect her either. I understand how she gets caught in the cross fire. After all of this 8 months later I tried to move into a new place but unfortunately the roommate came back. So I had to stay with my bf. He was hesitant, not sure, or really worried. Currently here. I felt better mentally. I felt heard. I felt more healing but also staying here the question of marriage comes within. I feel as if I should maybe end this relationship and work on myself by myself. Currently I have no where to go but I'm working on moving. I'm about to turn 24 I wish he would respect my wishes and marry me maybe this guilt would go away but I think we're maybe we're not meant for each other. I feel like I compromised so much of my things for him but from him I feel no effort. He doesn't have a job, go to school or really go anywhere. No plans to either Currently. I told him today I love you but I love my lord more than anyone more than everything combined and he didn't say anything. I told him I'd leave even if I had to work and sleep in my car for a bit. I also may have told him if you dont marry me by a specfic date im going to marry someone from my good side of the families recommended men for an arranged marriage(no not to cousins lol) he says no dont do that then I think I have nowhere to go so maybe just stay. I'm feeling stuck. No where to go. Im saving up for a place but it takes a while with bills and saving. What do you think? TSLA bounced off the 20 daily ema into open (the setup I mentioned in the Morning Watchlist Live Stream) and then started strongly trending upwards. I entered on the second 5min pullback after price came into test the trend line and started heading back up. I took profit in pieces and finally fully exited after at double top chart pattern formed against the 1048 liquidity.

The goal of day trading is to take advantage of volatility. The same stock isn't going to be volatile every single day of the week. Realistically a single ticker, might only have 4 or 5 volatile days per year. Of course there are outliers(think MRNA, TSLA, AMZN,etc). Invest in FAANG. Midterm, take a portion of your portfolio that you feel comfortable with using as a hedge. I, personally, use HYG as a vehicle to cover the crash I think is inevitable and buy SPY puts on up days and sell on downs to cover my midterm put premium in HYG. This market will not slowly grind down…it will keep rising until it collapses and a hedge will protect the rest of your portfolio (stairs up and World Trade Centers down principle). After you cash out your hedge, pile it all back into FAANG if you are more risk adverse. If you find yourself wanting to reach those goals quicker, there will be emerging tech that you can dabble in. Something for us all to consider: Most people didn’t call the type of growth that major players had in the past two years, even though it seems pretty obvious now. We may have jumped on along the way, but it’s hard to objectively look at these things and be sure. Tech made a huge move to the front stage and we really saw what made the market tick. After this next crash, ask yourself what sectors and businesses have all the signs pointing in the right direction for them. A big one will be new markets that are getting a ton of government subsidies and are inevitabilities for society to advance. A past example of this is TSLA. They came into a relatively untouched market, was one of the only major businesses taking advantage of huge government initiatives and cornered something before anyone else could. I’m not a huge fan of TSLA but you can’t say that what they did didn’t work. I don’t know what is next, what sector or industry will lead the way but I think things in the market will restructure first. Be ready to have cash for those events. My bet, completely a feeling, is something to do with computing/processing power like quantum computing. Tech like this seems really far off but is getting closer and closer. High risk or blue chip -- those are two separate things? Nevertheless, I do use Roth IRA for somewhat 'riskier' trading than my 401K (which is all 'safe' investments), but think QQQ instead of SPY / VOO and some option straddles, rather than some really risky stock like TSLA or crypto-based products. But I do all my riskiest trading in my taxable brokerage account. Which is a good thing since I mostly lose money on my options trades anyways 😄 so I can offset against any stock gains I make.

I do this. TSLA is currently half of my IRA, and I have no plans to sell out till I'm at least 65. I'm 31 and in a financially stable position, so as long as I don't do dumb shit like yolo my savings account or mortgage my house into coins made of bits I can be as risky as I want. Here is a risk profile that works for me. 401k: 60% it comes out of my check my company matches it and it's managed by someone else, or probably some trading algo. The idea was even if I fail miserably I can still retire on my 401k. However this year they have only returned 12% and in a year where the S&P 500 is at 27% I find that unacceptable. Might take this over and just split it between VOO/VTI. Idk little miffed about it. ROTH IRA: >30% I am below the $6k/year threshold, so I just throw it all in an IRA that way I don't have to worry about taxes on it ever. I use this account for 'riskier' long term bets. Got a bit in mega cap for less volatility, but when I find a company that I believe in on a multi decade time frame I build out a position there. TSLA, was an obvious call for me in this account. Might build out a larger position in PLTR in this account, but I'm not 100% sold yet. Then some weed stocks(less then 3% of the IRA) and the META, ARKG ETFs. Once my income increases and I pass that 6k/year cap I will transition this IRA to safer long term calls (mega cap tech, blue chips, ETFs, etc. Then make my riskier bests in a normal brokerage account. Digital Assets: <10% I think this is 6% right now, but it fluctuates. this is where I'm taking the most risk and expecting the most immediate returns. Again not risking anything that could harm me or my family, but enough to be engaged with the asset class and keep track of the industries development. Also scratches yolo gambling itch in an account that can minimize the collateral dmg. IMO managing risk is more about managing your emotions than anything else. I understand my strengths and weaknesses really well, so I set up my investment ecosystem to take advantage of my strengths and mitigate the risk and fallout of my weaknesses. China has way more leverage over Chinese companies then an American company with factories there. If push comes to shove with contradictory laws between the US and China the Chinese company will side with China, and the US company will side with America. China's government may be able to punish NKE, TSLA, & AAPL if they do stuff they don't like, but if they take too drastic action (i.e. like seizing their factories) it'll scare investors away from their economy and hurt them a lot in the long run.

For Normal calls/puts executing the option instead of selling to close will always net you less due to not recovering your premium paid. Instead you're using the contract for yourself, to buy the 100 shares, the ~$600/contract paid is gone. But, you bought TSLA stock well below the existing price so your profit is only that differential (say the contract was for $500, so each share you made $500, or 500k with all 100 shares. If you just sold to close, the contract value will have this differential baked in, including any time left on the contract, etc. This is where instead of 500k you maybe made 510k for selling the contract, or if a lot of time is available, could be more like 600k+. Even with 5 minutes left in the trading day, you'll get more for that contract than buying the stock. Obviously in the long run executing on something you wanted to add to your portfolio anyways is a good idea, just not if you're simply looking to make the most money from it. Edit: Elon was granted these options as compensation from TSLA, so the whole premium thing and contract execution is out the window. Either way he'd have to 'cash in' those shares and by selling shares he's paid for the taxes on the rest. Almost like an RSU, when a percentage of your vested shares are sold off to pay the taxes, depending how you set it up.

This will be my last comment on it. 1) Technological advancements increase a workers productivity multiple times greater than the loss of individuals in the work force due to retirement. An example: How much faster can we build cars now? What causes us to build a car so much faster now than the 1930's. Even if you account population growth (123M in the 1930's vs 331M in the 2020's). Its not like we only build a car 3x as fast. 2) Supply constraints are the main driver of inflation. In normal times, business would be able to produce enough to meet demand. Interested in how the Bills roster stacks up against their opponents? Me too, and because of that I spend a significant amount of my time analyzing five key matchups for every Bills game; Bills Pass Offense vs. Opponents Pass Defense, Bills Rush Offense vs. Opponents Rush Defense, Bills Pass Defense vs. Opponents Pass Offense, Bills Rush Defense vs. Opponents Rush Offense, and Bills Special Teams vs. Opponents Special Teams. After doing this I try to determine “Why Buffalo Will Lose” and “Why Buffalo Will Win” which ultimately leads me to a Prediction. Below I present 2021’s 15th iteration of this analysis for the Bills upcoming game at the Patriots. Included is a scale to rank the advantage in each matchup from 👏👏👏👏👏 (Massive Advantage) to 👏 (Minimal Advantage).
Is Josh Allen a Pro Bowler? No. Is Josh Allen one of the best Quarterbacks in the NFL? Yes. Coming off a game where he torched one of the best Pass Defenses in the NFL for 3 Touchdowns while playing on a Sprained Foot behind an OL effectively missing 4 starters Allen entered yet another chapter in the storybook beginning to his 4-year career. Early on he may have sailed a few passes while figuring out how to deal with that injured foot but shortly there after he was slinging piss missiles through defenders for Touchdowns. Popularity contests be damned, Allen is an NFL Superstar that constantly puts this Bills team on his shoulders…and consistently delivers.
As of late that consistent delivery has come against Top-Tier pass defenses which will continue on Sunday as Buffalo faces a Top-8 (By DVOA) group for the 5th consecutive week. Less than 3 weeks ago, against this Patriots team, Allen put up the paltry stat line of 50% Completion, 184 Yards, and 1 Touchdown. It is worth noting that Allen is likely one of the few Quarterbacks in the NFL capable of producing even that level of success when you consider at times the winds on the field were in excess of 60MPH. This time around will be significantly different with the weather report suggesting temperatures in the Low 40s with little wind and no precipitation. What won’t be significantly different is the secondary on the other side of the ball that should make it difficult for the Bills to garner high levels of success pushing the ball through the air. Elite defenders like J.C. Jackson, Kyle Dugger, and Devin McCourty couple well with depth players like Jalen Mills, Adrian Phillips, and Myles Bryant to clamp down on opposing receivers. For Buffalo this will likely be Stefon Diggs, Gabe Davis, Emmanuel Sanders, and Dawson Knox as they were delt a huge blow this week losing Cole Beasley to COVID. If Allen can find a way to spread the ball to each of these players each and every drive the Bills could come away with an easy win but if he can’t Buffalo likely leaves Massachusetts with little to no chance of winning the AFC East.
Making this entire matchup all the more difficult is a defensive front that will give whatever offensive line Buffalo trots out fits. Bills Mafia is on pins and needles waiting to hear if Dion Dawkins and/or Jon Feliciano return from injury because if they do not Buffalo likely roles with the less-than-ideal Brown-Boettger-Morse-Ford-Williams OL. This sets up for a day after Christmas feast for the biggest offseason addition to the AFC East, Matt Judon. Judon has delivered an astounding 41 Pressures (NFL-4) and 12.5 Sacks (NFL-6) this season and projects to be a terror all day Sunday for the Patriots. Expect New England to find the weak side of Buffalo’s OL, which may honestly be both sides, and feature him specifically there. The result more than likely is a behemoth in long sleeves disrupting Josh Allen’s throwing motion on the majority of his drop backs.
EDGE: Bills 👏 👏 👏
Like only a true RB1 can do, the Bills Devin Singletary has seized the reigns of Buffalo’s backfield and become the predominate Running Back for his team. Against the Buccaneers he saw 82% of Offensive Snaps and against the Panther 93%. In those game Singletary is averaging 5.3 Y/A despite a low Yards Before Contact of 2.96. By no means is he Jonathan Taylor (Who he has out snapped the past 2 weeks) or Derrick Henry but Buffalo has seemingly found something that is working in their backfield. Moving forward there is no reason to expect to see him on the field any less than 80% of the time and with him and the occasional QB Draw and/or Jet Sweep it is possible Buffalo may actually have found a way to run the ball.
And running the ball may very well be the key to Buffalo leaving New England 1st place in the AFC East. While the Patriots Pass Defense has proven incredibly potent their Run Defense has been less than suspect ranking 28th in the NFL with a 4.6 Y/A. More so than even the Bills, the Patriots have been gashed by opposing RBs with no game more demonstrative of that then their matchup with the Titans. In that game, where the Titans were missing RB1 and RB2, the Pats gave up 270 yards on the ground for a 6.9 Y/A. By running directly at their strength, their Pass Rushers (i.e. Judon) teams are countering what the Patriots are best at and getting their RBs into the 2nd level. Once in that 2nd level the Patriots LBs have struggled to keep up with quick and/or fast RBs as they break down field for big gains. On paper this all makes too much sense but in practice we know it didn’t work in early December for the Bills, why?
The key difference in the Bills better than normal rushing attack the past 2 weeks has been twofold. First, Zack Moss has been benched in favor of more snaps for Devin Singletary and Matt Breida. Moss seemingly has the talent to compete in the NFL but his lack of vision and instincts to hit open holes has proven a major detriment to an RB that can’t get on a roll in 2021. Second, the Bills have gone full Bell Cow back mode. Devin Singletary is being used as the primary back which has allowed him to produce a rhythm on the ground as the game progresses Expect the Bills to stay somewhat Run Heavy this week by feeding Singletary and establishing that part of their game. Assuming Allen’s foot is feeling even better the Bills could abuse the Pats for 150+ on the ground which would be a game winning number for the Buffalo Bills in Week 16.
EDGE: Bills 👏
The Bills win football games when opposing teams throw the ball. In Bills losses Buffalo is giving up 26.3 Pass Attempts per game and in wins 37.1 Pass Attempts. Even sans Tre White the Bills Pass defense remains elite with Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde dominating at the Safety position, regardless of how Pro Bowl voters feel. Levi Wallace is playing like a mid-tier CB1, Dane Jackson has been impressive as an emergency CB2, Taron Johnson remains an elite Slot Corner, and as stated Poyer and Hyde are the best Safety tandem in the NFL. This is a secondary that can compete for a title and if they play to their potential over the next 2 months, they may just deliver one to Western New York.
The key to Buffalo winning Sunday is forcing Mac Jones to throw the ball. When Mac Jones throws the ball 37 or more times the Patriots are 0-4 and when he throws less than 37 times, they are 9-1. The definition of a “Game Manager” Jones has been impressive for a rookie QB but nowhere near the level of play that some in the NFL media have suggested. To date Mac Jones has a QuBeR of 52.75 which ranks #17 this season and #468 (Out of 896) since 1994. He is near as average a QB as QBs come and when the game is on his shoulders has consistently proven incapable of delivering. Let me make this clear, he could improve in coming seasons and become a dangerous QB but for now he is what he is, an average passer who struggles to bring his team back when they are down early.
One of the things that benefits Jones most is an OL who has proven dominant in protecting their rookie QB. Jones has just an 18.8% Pressure Rate, 3rd best in the NFL and 6.9 percentage points better than what Josh Allen is going through. This has allowed Jones, who has a quick release, to consistently scan to at a minimum of his second option without any mobility needed. Buffalo needs to counter this by sending heavy pressure up the middle with Ed Oliver and/or Harrison Phillips. One other possible contributor is Efe Obada who has proven more than capable of creating pressure up the middle. For the Bills to win this matchup it’s not their secondary you should worry about but whether or not they can create this afore mentioned interior pressure. Do so and Buffalo may just dominate in Foxborough Sunday afternoon.

The Bills run defense leaves a lot to be desired and it starts with their Middle Linebacker. I have consistently been critical of Tremaine Edmunds who I find to be an OK MLB at best. Most frustrating about him is he possesses all of the physical tools to be a legendary player but lacks the instincts and football IQ to be a dominate force in the modern NFL. Key on him play in and play out and you will see a player that is 0.5 seconds late and struggles with identifying running lanes. Long gone is the blame of the DTs in front of him and now is the time for Edmunds to step up and become the elite player he is capable of being. He will get paid if and when he leaves the Bills but in this final stretch of the season Buffalo needs him to feast if they want to extend their season considerably.
Buffalo must stack the box this week and force the Patriots to throw the ball. A lot has been written about how the Patriots ran all over the Bills but let’s stop and realize that they only scored 14 on Buffalo, a total that very likely does not win the game this week. The Bills likely get A.J. Klein back on Sunday which will allow them to go Base if and when they need to. In theory this allows them to better match up against bruisers in Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson. Expect Buffalo to run that base set sparingly though as Taron Johnson has proven to consistently be a dominate force in the box against the run. A good barometer of how this game is going will be the number of missed tackles the Bills have. In their fist matchup of the season with the Pats they missed a whopping 17 tackles, this must improve.
The Bills can help themselves improve on that and stopping the run by unleashing one of the best players on the defensive side of the ball this season in Jordan Poyer. It is literal insanity that he is the THIRD alternate for the Safety position in the Pro Bowl for the AFC, especially when you consider he has arguably been the best safety in the NFL this season. Poyer is dominate against the pass but can play like an extra outside linebacker when called upon. Expect him to be in the box consistently and often while punching at the ball whenever he gets the chance to. Poyer can win this game for Buffalo on the defensive side of the ball with a game changing play and that’s something we should not put past a player that MUST be an All-Pro this season.
EDGE: Patriots 👏 👏 👏
Tyler Bass was the Fifth alternate for AFC Kicker in the Pro Bowl. This means that it has been deemed that FIVE kickers in the AFC alone were better than the Kicker that is the only one in the AFC with more than 27 XPs attempted to nail 100% of them. He is elite, the Pro Bowl is a joke. At Punter Matt Haack continues to move up the Punting Charts. Haack now has an I20% of 35.56% and has been drilling punts for an average of 45.8 in his last 5 games. Last is PKR which I am still skeptical of as Marquez Stevenson has taken over return duties. Stevenson has flashed the quickness that is needed from elite return men yet should still list as a boom or bust returner due to ball security issues.
Nick Folk still has yet to miss a FG from within 50 yards since Week 1 of 2020. Folk is about as automatic as it gets at kicker and is a player that Bills fans should expect to put up points whenever they see him on the field. Punting is Jake Bailey who is still one of the best in the business and when he gets kicks off is deadly in the Punt game. Bailey though is the only NFL Punter with multiple blocked punts this season and has THREE which is a massive number for that stat. Expect the Bills to come after him often in Punt Block formation as opposed to return formations. Last is return man Gunner Olszewski who ranks 3rd in Y/PR (12.0) and 5th in Y/KR (24.7). Gunner is dangerous and should be treated as a possible game changer in Foxborough on Sunday.
EDGE: Patriots 👏 👏 👏
The Patriots benefited massively in their first matchup with the Bills that saw weather conditions that played extraordinarily into their favor. Sill though, their game plan proved fruitful as they were able to pick up consistent yardage against a Bills team that struggled to stop the run. Will Mac Jones need to throw more than 3 times this week? Of course, but if the Patriots can jump out to an early lead, they should be able to rely on their bread and butter of interior runs to control the clock and put-up points against the Bills.
On defense it all comes down to turnovers. Can the secondary, specifically McCourty and Jackson, goad Allen into forcing the ball through tight windows? If so and that secondary can force multiple turnovers the Pats should be able to flip this game in their favor quickly. Add in Matt Judon who likely will pressure Josh Allen all game and that turnover number could grow as high as 4. If it hits 4 call it a game, and hand the Pats the AFC East Title.
The Bills have the better QB in this matchup, and a pissed off one at that. Josh Allen is one of those freak players in the NFL who has the ability to say “Hey, see that win? That’s mine”. Allen should dish to Diggs, Sanders, Davis, and Knox and while the loss of Beasley is huge, I think Singletary fits this game extremely well. The Pats struggle to stop the run and Singletary is on a mini hot streak. A few chunk plays on the ground coupled with some pass plays mimicking run plays and the Bills should be able to put up points quickly and often.
The defense will be fully dependent on the Bills offense. Expect Buffalo to WANT the ball to start the game to obtain an early lead. Force that early lead and you can force Mac Jones to throw. Force Jones to throw against this Palms defense and don’t be surprised if they can create 2+ turnovers in New England. All is not lost if the Pats go run heavy, which they will, since the Bills will have completely adjusted their game plan. Harrison Phillips and Ed Oliver both need to have big games here and if they do the Patriots offense will prove to be as pedestrian as it actually is.
We are eyeing a game for the ages and one which likely defines this season for each team. There may be some Pats fans reading this and let me tell you this prediction is purely based on which team has the better QB, and there is no argument on who that is. With weather conditions set to be normal what was a handicap for the Bills in Week 13 no longer exists. The Bills are the angrier team here for a lot of reasons (Loss to Pats, Pro Bowl Snubs, Standings, Media Disrespect, etc.) which should further allow them to reach their full potential. Look for Buffalo to come out hard and take this game on route to their second AFC East Title in a row.

Started trading at 16 and my best advice, don't do it. Focus on college and getting a less risk degree. Right now you are at that age were you are prone to make risks and make bad decisions in the market. The market isn't easy to learn as some may think - especially for day trading - and those gurus aren't really showing you how to trade either. Personally YouTube isn't really good, they are tons of fake gurus out there. Question, why are successful traders making videos but then charging hundreds to thousands of dollars? And since you talked about options, I am guessing you heard it from some of those subs reddits or the whole GME thing. They really aren't showing the full story, some of the guys had luck then lost it all. I know one of my classmates that was up 20k, then lost it all, down to $500 or so (I heard about these a lot) and is very depressed (I am 20 years old). Again my personal advice is don't do it, day trading takes a long time to accomplish, not every trader becomes profitable and some give up (again know a lot of them). Edit: I forgot to mention but you have to sacrifice a lot of time for trading. 9 am to 4 pm for trading, then the rest for schooling and then assignments. Which could end around 9 pm, then if you like me you check the markets again and you gotta sleep early, being sleep deprived is not good.

The goal of day trading is to take advantage of volatility. The same stock isn't going to be volatile every single day of the week. Realistically a single ticker, might only have 4 or 5 volatile days per year. Of course there are outliers(think MRNA, TSLA, AMZN,etc). By focusing on only a few stocks you are going to miss a lot of opportunities. Image if GME wasn't on your magical list back in January. You would have missed the biggest trade of the year!

Granted, I have GME and crypto. That makes up less than 5% of my portfolio, although judging from this account you would be forgiven for assuming it's more. Moon shots are rare and risky so it's not something I allocate a huge amount of money to nor do I suggest others should do the same. I've never even mentioned these investments to anyone in real life. Also, you're a fool if you don't have any GME or crypto right now. At the end of the day the core business is low margin video games retail. When you look at macro picture, all brick and mortar retail businesses are facing more and more challenges for one. And then second, they sell video games and video games publishers are super super eager to move to digital only sales as soon as they can. From publisher's point of view digital sale is much more valuable than physical. So then the core of the business terminally impaired. They already had negative net margins ever since 2018 and even with this crazy WSB stuff they still cant generate net income. If we have any prolonged recession and people need to sell their shares or WSB people get bored its game over for GME. Edit: On MDT, they make medical devices. It's a business with wide moat that has been around for 72 years and while stock price been beaten down recently they still have 65% gross margin and around 15% net margin generating around 4b net profit. So this makes me very skeptical of these bankruptcy percentages. Somehow consistently profitable business is more likely to go bankrupt than unprofitable brick and mortar commodity retailer. I wouldn't pay too much attention to those honestly.

So that's the theory which I'm aware of but I'm not convinced. What you are saying is that GME is switching to e-commerce... in 2021. This is not 1995. E-commerce is a given basic necessity for any decent retailer and the fact that people are celebrating GME becoming e-commerce business in 2021 is odd. On digital download its not a moot point. It makes no sense at all for people to be buying digital downloads from GME. Why would your average person go to GME e-shop, login, buy the code, go to console, manually enter the code when he can go directly to PlayStation store or Steam and click buy? Especially when Steam and other stores are very good at offering discounts that retailers find it hard to match. It just makes no sense. On physical games always having some demand, yea sure. Fax machines still have demand, so do cassettes and CD-RW disks but is not the market you want to be in. And your assumption relies that publishers keep publishing physical copies. That's not the case, already more and more games are coming out digital only. Where is the physical copy of CoD Warzone? All indies are digital only. Where does that leave GME? And also we assume that games streaming doesn't take off in a big way. But you know Xbox games subscription thing is already very compelling and it will only get better and better. You get loads of good (digital) games for small monthly fee. Where does that leave GME? On collectibles and all that stuff, its just super early to tell and its still unproven if it can be lasting and profitable activity. Yet its the final and only Hail Mary for GME... They have the following going for them. -New chairman in Ryan Cohen who revolutionized the pet industry. -They've lured a huge list of new execs from Amazon, Walmart, and other big e commerce giants, I don't have the exact number but it's like 50+ talented individuals who've started with the company over the last year or so. Why would all these execs be joining a dying company? -2+ billion in capital earmarked for growth. -Two brand new massive fulfillment centers on each coast, one 500,000sq ft, one 700,000sq ft, why do they need this if nothing is changing in the company? -Brand new 500+ employee customer care centre, again why do they need this if they plan to maintain the status quo? It might work short-term for massive bursts, but it's not a sustainable strategy. Index funds tend to be much more long-term sustainable gains even if smaller gains. If you believe strongly in high-risk ARKK, buy it and stick to it. It's your call. For me, I don't believe in her car salesman scheme to search for pumps or pump it herself like she did Tesla. If you look at wsb over time, it will work wonders until it doesn't. I bet Cathie stays up at night trying to see if she can find the next Tesla. If she does, great. I (24/m) am really into this girl (23/f) who I have been seeing for the last 8 weeks. All seemed to be going well & we just got back from a short trip away.
She mentioned a present she wanted and I was hesitant to get it as I wasn’t sure if it was too soon but I figured I wanted to and she deserved them, they weren’t mega expensive but a fair amount. I went round to give them to her yesterday. She was happy with them but when I left, I still felt uncomfortable and unsure in myself. She text back saying she was happy with them and so grateful. She didn’t get me anything, which is fine as I didn’t give the present to receive one and I’m not that bothered.
I opened up the dialogue of if it was too much, too soon & she said the act wasn’t too much but paired with the trip away and it being Christmas makes a difference. She then said she told her friend and she said anything Christmas related gives off cozy and coupley vibes so the notion is quite intense, and she felt like that was a perfect description. She then added that it isn’t a dig at me and I haven’t turned her off.
I said that’s fine, we can cool it off over Christmas and she said it’s a busy time seeing family and she has to rearrange old plans with friends that were cancelled last week but we still have a date booked in for January.
Ultimately, I’m not really sure what to think of it, last I saw of her she was quite affectionate and touchy but now I feel like I’ve read everything wrong and I’m not sure how to even go about it all anymore.
Do I stop texting her? Do I just pretend it didn’t happen? I would like her to be upfront if she doesn’t have the same feelings and don’t want her to avoid doing it just because of a gift and her feeling obligated to continue talking to me (which I explained to her).
I’m a massive worrier and don’t want to spend the next few days sick to my core in uncertainty. Even some coping mechanisms would be great.

Hey all, and thanks in advance and an advance on my apologies for my scattered writing. I write like I speak and I'm all over the place.
I was late on rent for this month (December 2nd, 2021), and got the initial ransom-esque note stating, 'Pay $X,XXX by midnight on 12/09/2021' followed by the threatening of court. Now, I wasn't able to pay it that date, it had to wait until my next paycheck (which was supposed to pay a different bill. Fun times.) I've paid the amount due in full. Rent is about to be due for January now and the paycheck I just got has to cover the bills I got behind on getting caught up on rent this month. I've got stuck in this rut, and it couldn't be a worse time.
I was handserved a court summons for eviction. My lease is up in April, but with the way things are going, I don't know if I can make it that far. What can I do? I've paid the money, so do I still have to go to court? I can't afford a day off. How badly does an eviction on your consumer report affect your chances at future homeowning power? Because I'm really considering saying fuck it, and just living out of my car for a couple months and not paying January's rent. But I'm worried because I want a home in the hopefully somewhat future. This is for Michigan. Wayne County if it matters.
I don't know what to do, or where to go. I've been on my own since I was 16, I'm almost 24 now. I work two full-time jobs, one as Quality Control for an automotive company, and another I work with the deceased. I go to school full time for mortuary science and I live on my own. I don't know shit about the law aside from the rants of my drunken, trailer park bred, white trash family that's either MIA or dead. Will try my best to keep this short, just putting some thoughts out on paper. And hopefully get some insight from you all.
I'm a 24 y/o dude with pretty limited dating/relationship experience. So, on a whim I decided to try out online dating starting about 1.5 months ago.
I matched with Girl #1 and went on a few dates with her--from what I could tell through those few weeks, she was kind, supportive, funny. She was definitely 'cooler' than me, so I felt kind of intimidated at times, that she would think I was boring but I don't think it was a big deal to her. We didn't have a whole lot in common and we had pretty different (but not incompatible) personalities. Still, we did have a fun back-and-forth through text, and I felt excited whenever she would message me. Definitely laughed a lot through text. However, I found it kind of hard to keep the conversation flowing in-person at times. Also, I don't know if this is or should be normal but after our dates, I'd feel pretty spent and tired. And while I'm not the most 'mature' guy out there, I felt like we were on different wavelengths in that sense.
I overthink a lot. I know this isn't a good mindset, but every time I kind of get interested in someone, I automatically think about whether I would want to be with this person long-term, and if the answer is no or 'eh', I get confused or subconsciously less interested. And me being a naive guy thinking that things are supposed to have a 'spark' and magically click within the first few weeks, decided to end things with Girl #1.
Fast forward to now, I've been on a few dates with Girl #2. We have a LOT in common. Unfortunately, she's a pretty boring texter so I don't have nearly the same level of excitement through text as I did with Girl #1. But in-person, I just feel so comfortable and find it so easy to talk to her. I don't feel tired at all despite spending hours with her. She's also (from what I can tell) kind, supportive, funny.
While I really do like Girl #2, there's something I can't shake. I just don't feel as 'excited' about her, which is really hard to describe. She's definitely very comfortable, but there was something about the butterflies that the Girl #1 made me feel that I catch myself thinking about.
What is wrong with me? Why is it that when I'm with Girl #1, I end up wanting 'comfort', and when I'm with Girl #2, I end up thinking about 'excitement'? All this makes me feel like I'm too immature, and that I should step back and work on myself before getting into a relationship.

So this is a long one but I'm going to try and include everything that has happened.
So last Sunday, almost a week ago, my brothers girlfriend was hosting a morning event with Some family of mine and some of her friends. They ended up partying all day and towards the end of the night we were all playing board games and just having fun when I realize it's time for me to hit the hay cause I had to work early in the morning.
I went to my room to sleep around 11pm. I get woken up at around 12.30am by a friend of my brothers girlfriend and she drunkenly comes to wake me up and tell me my mother need help so I go down to see what's going on, and everything seems fine. She seemed drunk and I didn't want her driving home so I had her sleep in my room.
As I was setting her down I go to leave ( to sleep on the couch downstairs) when she grabs me and pulls me down saying she doesn't want to be alone. So I lay there while I try to put her to sleep when out of nowhere she seems rather normal? Like a switch she went from being drunk to sober? She starts having me hug her and we have an intimate moment just locking eyes and having some small talk. Eventually things transpire and I'll leave the rest out, but later I couldn't sleep all night so I just laid there staring at her and in disbelief at what happened.
My last relationship was 5 years ago almost 6 now and I was so ecstatic at what happened and I realized how long I've yearned for intimacy like that again. 5am comes and I just get up shower and leave for work. I was giddy all morning til she sends me a text ( took my number from my brother) all embarrassed and apologizing for what we did. Now here I go from happy to being down and hating myself for what happened. Not only did I take advantage of someone but everything I felt that night felt immediately invalidated.
I apologized to her plenty of times and she kept reassuring me that it's fine and it's her fault, knowing damn well I was at fault and was raised knowing better. Anyways after bottling everything in for two days. My brother and his girlfriend (who knew or found out from either me or her friend) helped talk with me a little and made me feel slightly better.
After that I texted her again and we made plans to meet Sunday and hang out to I guess talk things over. Now at this point she gave so many hints towards maybe trying to hook up and see if we might want to start a relationship or if things click between us. Now the from my conversation with my brother and his GF, they did let me know that they also, at the party, didn't believe she was drunk and also thought she was sober. So they think she actually might be interested in me and asked if I wanted to try and pursue something.
They let me know how she takes forever to reply in text, and how she is also actively looking for a partner as she's ready to start settling down and so am I. However though she has agreed to go out Sunday, she takes forever to reply as mentioned but never really starts a text conversation unless I do. And when I message she replies pretty fast and after a bit just stops for hours or until I message her back the next day.
Now today it's Thursday and I find out from my mom she had tested positive for (you know what). I immediately let her know ans get tested myself. We agree to postpone the date till my mom gets better since she didn't feel comfortable. I haven't had the results yet ,till tomorrow or sunday, but she took the at home one and came out negative.
Now my problem or rather what I need advice for is this. Since that night, it has been replaying in my head all week. I have this urge to text her and try to get to know her more throught text but like I said, slow responder. I don't want to feel like a nuisance constantly texting her if she does not initiate, but I have her on my mind 24/7. Am I reading too much I to this?! Am I being delusional with anything happening from a night that shouldn't have happened?!?!

I've been off the lease since October and what she told me was 'If you sign off the lease I will stop talking to him' I did that and I remember her smirking and laughing.
Week later she was still flirting with this guy and I caught then confronted her. She ran out the apartment went to the police filed a restraining order and lied telling them I was abusing her.
Now this guy is flying into MY HOMETOWN that I moved her too posting Scarface pics and saying stuff like I ' i took your girl' and she's posting how in love she is now.
I was the first to move into the apartment and we moved her whole bedroom and items from her city to mines.
The bed was hers, the tv was hers, the furniture, everything was hers inside the apartment.... So I played accordingly and allowed her to do what she wanted with the space since I had spent all my money on her moving truck, the rent, the flights for her and her cat, hotels, etc. I wanted 10k on just getting her here and she didn't have to spend anything because her brother and parents bought her way. I'm 24 she's 22 we started dating long distance 2 years ago. The relationship ended in August, but IM MAD AT MYSELF.

This is a story for those who sometimes come here wondering if wearing an analog watch has any purpose anymore. It is slightly personal, so take note of the length before diving in, but I hope you enjoy. I'm willing to bet there are many others out there with a similar story. I'm excited about how my life has changed and the story centers around wearing a watch, so I thought I'd share here
I will be turning 26 (entering the wrong side of my 20's) here in a few months or so. I only say this to make it clear that I've grown up with a cellphone in my pocket since I was 12
I'd always checked my phone when I needed the time, that is, until early this year.
I'd been coming off my second suspension from the university I was attending. This was after a year long university-forced hiatus where I had once again failed my parents and the money I am blessed that they had continued to invest in me. Because of them, I am student-loan free, and this privilege is more than enough to get me 'who's cutting onions' when I think about everything in perspective today
I know now that I had an incredible time management problem, and honestly I knew this during the worst of it, too. I did nothing with my life after I moved to college... I got high everyday for years and couldn't stop myself from doing it. I made no good use of my time, and I threw away around 100 credit hours as my parents continued to invest money in the education I refused to focus on at times. I really hit rock bottom when I got fired from a job, realized I was chasing relationships based on sex/what I could gain from people, and just generally being a POS.
Granted, these were dark times for me. Getting high served as a coping method for a reality I didn't know how to face, especially after some rough times where I felt I'd been taken advantage of by those closest to me prior to that downfall. Getting high became a dependency... and at 24 the darkness of that accumulated lost time really began to haunt me. I knew I needed a serious change in my life or I'd lose myself in all the guilt I'd accumulated just feeling sorry for myself all those years, but I had no idea how to make that change - or even what it needed to be
So, remember, here I am starting school again in January after a forced year off. I was out of expulsions... If I failed this time, I would never be allowed back into the university to try again at my degree. I really wanted to make my parents and others who invested in me proud. I needed 36 credits to finish, and I set a goal to do it in a year's time/two semesters because I felt so much pressure to get on with my life and stop burdening my parents, especially. Needless to say I was very anxious heading in. The school was only letting me take 12 credits in my first semester back (on probation), and 6 of those were re-takes to hopefully improve my GPA to ensure I would not be expelled a 3rd and final time.
This was frustrating to my plan, I believed in myself and this meant I would still have 30 credits to go even if I knocked it out of the park come the end of the semester. Anxiety multiplied a little
Around the time I started classes, I just had a random urge to buy a watch. I've always been a little self conscious of my wrist size... and I think I just wanted to cover it up a little in some way, or stylize the situation so I could feel more comfortable about it. I made a few beginner mistakes along the way, but now have 4 pieces I enjoy very much
I still really enjoyed my first few watches, just wearing them, looking at them. But the key to this story is, I knew I could only really enjoy looking at the time if time was on my side and not against me - no matter how cool it looked.
So that's when it began to click. I realized that wearing a watch and not keeping good track of time would just make me an asshole (just what I told myself personally because it was motivating and felt true)
Those 12 credit hours I took in the spring, I got straight A's. I told myself I could only do the work in front of me, even if it was a slow start for my hopes to graduate in just under a year.
I told my advisor I wanted to take on the maximum summer credits (12), but was told I could not yet apply for the classes until a later date because of my terrible academic standing. They had to wait until my grades were finalized. This meant that I would have to wait a good month or two after those in good standing had a chance to enroll, which would fill and maximize the seats.
I could only enroll in 6 of the 12 credit hours for a summer term. Thankfully, my persistence in pursuing my plan paid off and I was able to bother another professor into accepting me for my 9th credit hour. This still left me 3 short of my summer goal but I continued to worry about the work in front of me. Overall, this would mean I still needed 21 credits in the fall to graduate in time for my goal
I worked nearly 40 hour weeks in the summer while managing those 9 credits. This would have been an unimaginable scenario for me just a year prior. Throughout my life I'd never showcased this kind of time management to others, or even myself - all because of the fact I wore a watch daily.
I passed those 9 credits while working those 40 hour weeks. I enrolled in the maximum 18 credit hours for the fall, and added 3 more via an online class at ivy tech (thanks to a loophole my advisor pointed out to me, allowing more than the 18 maximum. This was another very anxious and stressful experience but I thank God she made it work for me)
So, with 21 credit hours scheduled, I found myself in a position to complete my goal. Previously I'd struggled to ever maintain 15 credit hours, and had only really excelled at 12. But I knew all I could do was focus on the time I had, day by day, and do the work that was in front of me. Months with my watch had given me confidence in the habits and processes I'd developed to keep order and structure in my life at this time in August
All of this just because I felt that viewing time was only enjoyable if I knew I was in control of it. I wanted it to be an enjoyable experience to look down at my watch every day, and not a reminder of all the time I'd lost or failed those who believed in me. I was constantly reminded, in looking down at my wrist, that I was now in control of the time I had because I knew I was managing it well
I finished my 21 credit hours a few weeks ago, and now that the dust has settled, I can say that I graduated with an above 3.0 GPA during that semester.
The weight of the world is off my shoulders to some degree. Still have the rest of my life ahead to keep making up for that lost time, but lots of onions being cut when I think about how I've finally made something of that selfless investment in me. An investment made by generations of family members who passed along what they had and stressed the importance of education and hard work.
I've found resolve in the fact it was never that I was ungrateful, I just fell into a dark spiral where I was almost trying to lose track of time and just let it waste away until I was either gone or had the guts to leave by taking matters into my own hands. The guilt of wasting my parents money made things much harder for me to cope with at times, and also not knowing how to communicate with people about what I was dealing with (it was hard to trust people for a while)
All because I didn't want to feel like an asshole wearing a watch and not keeping good track of time. Onward from here. Now I finally have the structure in my life to make other major life changes, like fixing my posture and having a career. I've also got to thank those around me for setting the example on how to remain optimistic and keep your foot on the gas.
